How to avoid car fires caused by summer heat in the UAE

In light of the recent temperature increase, leaving hand sanitizers and fragrances in automobiles might be hazardous.

According to Brigadier General Mohammed Ibrahim Al Ameri, director-general of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority, most car fires are caused by drivers who disregard safety and preventive measures.

Leaving flammable items inside parked automobiles, such as hand sanitizers, perfumes, and lighters, as well as having oil leaks on the engine and running the engine when refueling a vehicle, are some of these, he added. Other examples include not performing routine maintenance on vehicles and having electrical and technical issues with the care system.

Officials stated that automobiles contain combustible substances such as liquid fuels, lubricants, and interior components such as plastics, rubber, and others.

Drivers have been recommended to check and monitor the car cooling system and engine oil rates regularly, to have routine maintenance performed by a professional specialist, secure the fuel tank top snugly to prevent oil leaking, and refrain from smoking near a heated automobile.

Drivers were also instructed to maintain a fire extinguisher and a first-aid kit in their vehicles.

Authorities have also advised drivers who park their vehicles in the open and/or in direct sunlight to leave the windows slightly open to avoid scorching food, soft drinks, perfumes, hand sanitizers, lighters, batteries, and other items left in the vehicle.
